Scope of work
Your mission as a Forward Deployed Engineer is to accelerate time-to-value for customers by translating architectural intent into working solutions.
You will:
1) Customer Implementation & Enablement
— Guide customers to deploy Port blueprints, scorecards, and workflows aligned with their infrastructure and developer experience goals.
— Lead hands-on configuration of Port’s software catalog, orchestrators, and plugins, mainly to support customer implementation.
— Build or extend simple integrations only as needed to help customers adopt the platform.
2) Customer Engagement & Support
— Work side-by-side with platform and DevEx teams to understand customer toolchains, governance needs, and cataloging gaps.
— Translate customer use cases into actionable steps and provide training, guidance, and best practices.
— Collaborate with Customer Success and Solution Architects to hand off production-ready implementations.
3) Troubleshooting & Education
— Serve as technical lead during onboarding and early rollout phases, triaging blockers and helping customers succeed.
— Produce reusable guides, scripts, documentation, and knowledge-base content for customers.
— Educate customer teams on customizing their IDP, extending scorecards, and managing workflow lifecycles.
Required skills
— 2+ years in customer-facing technical roles (Technical Success Engineer, Technical Account Manager, Customer Success) in SaaS or developer tools.
— Familiarity with DevOps/platform concepts (CI/CD, IaC, cloud) to guide customers.
— Comfort with event-driven systems, APIs, CLI tools, YAML-heavy config in a customer-facing context.
— Strong communication, problem-solving, and teaching skills.
Bonus
— Experience with Internal Developer Portals (IDPs), Backstage, or similar developer tooling.
— Experience creating customer-facing guides, onboarding materials, implementation scripts.
Required Skills

At least 5 years of working and administering Linux systems with deep system & networking understanding

At least 5 years of experience with CI/CD pipeline and build tools (e.g. Git, Jenkins, Docker, Artifactory)

Proven programming and scripting experience - e.g. Python, Bash, Go, Groovy

Knowledge in networking and internet technologies - e.g. HTTP servers, DNS, switch/router administration, firewalls, proxies, etc.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work in a dynamic multi-task environment with context switches

Knowledge of and a passion for configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet

Experience with cloud IaaS such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and SaaS in general
